Why Register a (Pty) Ltd?

A Private Company (Pty) Ltd offers limited liability - your personal assets are protected if the business fails. It also looks more professional and is required for many government tenders.

Registration via CIPC eFiling

  1. Go to efiling.cipc.co.za and create a customer account
  2. Check company name availability
  3. Complete form CoR14.1
  4. Pay registration fee of R175 for new company
  5. Receive company registration certificate (COR14.3) usually within 5-10 working days

After Registration - Your To-Do List

  1. Open a business bank account
  2. Register for Income Tax at SARS eFiling
  3. Register for VAT if turnover will exceed R1M
  4. Register as employer if hiring staff
  5. Draft a shareholders agreement if multiple shareholders

Annual Compliance

Every (Pty) Ltd must file an Annual Return with CIPC (R100-R450 depending on turnover) and an Annual Tax Return with SARS.
